Matt Heffernan ('05)
kinglear5.jpg
The Earl of Kent and a Servant

Matthew M. Heffernan is a freshman at Bates College and is planning to
major in American Cultural Studies.  He is from Cranston, Rhode Island,
and no he can not walk across the state for fun when he gets bored.  Matt
has been acting throughout High School and has already performed in one
main stage play at Bates.  He would like to thank the cast and the
director of this production of King Lear for making this such a fun and
laid back experience.  Matt would also like to thank all of his friends
and family, especially those who feel like both and helped to make his
life what it is to day.

Nathan Holt ('04)
kinglear1.jpg
The Earl of Gloucester and the Sixth Gentleman

Nathan is delighted to be involved in radio drama for the first time. He's been on the stage at Bates as Mond in "Brave New World," Paul Stuart in "Isn't it Romantic," and Private Kleisrath in "Manny's War." He is also a member of The Strange Bedfellows. He once saved Matt Pangallo from wolves.

Leslie Hurd ('04)
kinglear8.jpg
The Fool

"Down, wanton, down!"
Leslie had a blast working with everyone. She sends HUGE thanks to Matteo and the brilliant cast, who helped her become the fool she is today.

Louisa Jensen ('02)
kinglear6.jpg
Regan

This will be Louisa's last theater production at Bates and she is very happy to end her career here by playing such an evil character. When she was asked to play the role, she was extremely excited as this would be the first time she has had the honor of playing one of Shakespeare's greatest female villains. She would like to thank Matteo for giving her this opportunity.

Robert O'Brien ('02)
kinglear15.jpg
The King of France, a Knight, the First Gentleman, a Doctor, and a Herald

Robert O'Brien is a senior, majoring in History and in French. His time spent studying in Quebec and France prepared him well for the role of King of France. Otherwise, he does his best to flavor minor characters with distinct accents of their own. This is O'Brien's first and only production here at Bates.

Dominick Pangallo ('03)
kinglear10.jpg
Oswald the Steward and the Third Gentleman

Dominick is a Junior at Bates College, where is he majoring in Theater and Political Science. Previous roles at Bates include Feste in "12th Night," Antonio in "Much Ado About Nothing," and Lt. Campbell in "Manny's War." Dominick will direct Thomas Kyd's "The Spanish Tragedy" for his Theater thesis next year. His previous directing credits at Bates include "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)," "The Hunting of the Snark," and "Art." Props to Matteesmo.

Colin Simmons ('02)
kinglear4.jpg
Edmund the Bastard and the Second Messenger

Plagued by restless thoughts of insanity, nihilism and suicide, Simmons breaks from the dry cracked shell of his honors thesis on Edgar Allan Poe to take part in this radio production of King Lear. "I was frightened at first," he says, "to play the bastard son Edmund, just because he's so intense and I was in the middle of my thesis. But he's so intriguing, you never really know what he's planning until he's right in your face. I think I'm a lot like that in little ways sometimes." Simmons is also in the process of helping to make a short documentary project on Genes' diner in Lewiston focusing specifically on issues of community consciousness. He has been involved with WRBC since freshman year, on which he hosts a weekly radio show "Gabby Hayes Big" on Saturday nights from midnight to 2 AM. "I play Radiohead, Zeppelin, sometimes I'll just rock out to some phat house beats, " he says, turning up the volume from his winamp player, "I'm psyched thesis is done and short term is gonna be sweet! Matt, as always, you did a great job, and the cast was amazing. Bravo!" Simmons has no plans for next year though he may spend in traveling the Americas.

Jamal Smith ('03)
kinglear9.jpg
Edgar and the Fifth Gentleman

Ayisha Wales ('03)
kinglear3.jpg
Goneril

From the suburbs of Chicago, Ayisha is a junior at Bates College. She is aWomen's studies major. As a regular patron of the theater, Ayisha has done several plays here at Bates. Among the most recent she was casted as the lead role in Brave New World. Other plays include The Good Doctor, Electra, and the Vagina monologues. This is her first radio-theater production, and she'd like to thank Matt H. for encouraging her to audition.

Kevin Weiler ('05)
kinglear2.jpg
The Duke of Albany and the Second Gentleman

Bates first-year Kevin Weiler is very excited about being part of King Lear.  This is his second involvement with a Shakespearean work, having appeared as Duncan, King of Scotland, in Macbeth.  No stranger to the stage, Kevins past credits include The Matchmaker, The Miracle Worker, Crazy for You, The Music Man, and The Glass Menagerie.  Most recently, he has appeared in the Bates productions of Brave New World and The Sea Wall.  Kevin also performs regularly with The Strange Bedfellows, Bates' premiere improvisational comedy group.
